car will appear in green in the control
display before an audible warning signal is
given.
Select "PDC pic." in the menu "Settings"
and confirm. The PDC image is activated.
The display then appears in the control
display as soon as PDC is activated auto-
matically or switched on manually.
When the system is switched off, the
previous display automatically appears
again.
By confirming the menu item , you
return to the previous display.
<
PDC is no substitute for your personal
assessment of obstructions. The
sensors have certain dead areas in which
objects cannot always be detected. In
addition, the identification of objects may
not be possible if the physical limits of the
ultrasonic measuring principle are
exceeded, for instance in the case of trailer
tow hitches and towbars, and also other
thin or wedge-shaped objects. It is also
possible that low obstructions already
displayed such as a kerb may disappear
again from the monitoring range before a
continuous audible warning signal is
issued. Loud sound sources outside or
inside your car could mask the PDC
signal.
<
Keep the sensors clean and free from
ice, so that they always operate reli-
ably. Do not spray the sensors for any
length of time with a high-pressure
cleaning jet. Keep such jets at least 10 cm
(approx. 4 in) away from the sensors.

Driving stability control/
Dynamic Stability Control
(DSC)
Your BMW has a number of systems that
maintain the vehicle's stability even in
adverse driving conditions. They are
described below under the umbrella terms
DSC and ABS.
The principle
DSC maintains dynamic stability even in
critical driving situations.
The system optimises dynamic stability
when the car is accelerating and starting
from a standstill, and boosts traction. It in
addition identifies unstable driving situa-
tions such as understeering or oversteering
and helps to keep the vehicle on a stable
course, subject to the limits imposed by the
basic laws of dynamics, by reducing the
engine output and applying the brakes to
individual wheels.
DSC is ready to operate each time the
engine is started. DSC comprises the func-
tions Dynamic Traction Control (DTC) and
Dynamic Brake Control (DBC).
DTC emulates the function of a conven-
tional differential lock by applying the
brakes to the driven wheels, and boosts
traction in particular operating conditions,
e.g. on snow-covered roads.
Indicator lights
The indicator light in the info display
goes out shortly after the engine
has been started.
The control lamp flashes:
DSC is regulating the propulsive and
braking power.
The indicator light is on permanently:
DSC has been shut down via the control
display.
