When moving off uphill, the car is
prevented from rolling backwards uninten-
tionally.
If you switch off the engine with the car at a
standstill, the parking brake is automati-
cally applied.
You can activate and de-activate Auto-
matic Hold via the menu "Settings" in the
control centre. For basic details of the
control centre, see page 17.
Activating/de-activating Automatic
Hold
1. Select "Settings"
2. Select and confirm
3. Select "AUTO P". Press the controller to
activate/deactivate the desired function

Automatic Hold is activated.
The green AUTO P logo in the info display
indicates that the system is operational
>
Automatic Hold is deactivated.
The green AUTO P logo in the info display
goes out.
You can assign the Automatic Hold
function to the programmable func-
tion key on the steering wheel, see
page 50.
This enables you to activate or de-activate
Automatic Hold rapidly and without
diverting your attention from the traffic situ-
ation.

You can also deactivate Auto-
matic Hold when the car is
stationary by pressing the
button. The car remains braked,
and the indicator light changes
from green to red. To release the parking
brake, press the button again.
Driving with Automatic Hold
When the car is halted, the parking brake is
applied automatically. The indicator
light in the info display lights up
green.
To move away, simply press the acceler-
ator. The parking brake is automatically
released, and the indicator light goes
out.
Do not drive through a car wash with
the engine running and Automatic
Hold activated. Otherwise the parking
brake will be applied when the car comes
to a standstill.

Parking with Automatic Hold
If you switch off the engine with the car at a
standstill, the parking brake is automati-
cally applied. The indicator light
changes from green to red.
You can also release the parking
brake manually after switching off the
engine, provided the remote control is
engaged in the ignition lock, see page 58.
This function is useful e.g. in a car wash.
Automatic Hold is deactivated.

When leaving the car, always remove
the remote control from the ignition
lock, otherwise any children remaining in
the car could for instance release the
parking brake.

For your safety
Automatic Hold is deactivated automati-
cally if:
>
The engine is switched off
>
No occupant is detected on the driver's
seat when the engine is running
>
The engine compartment lid is opened
while the engine is running
>
The luggage compartment lid is opened
while the engine is running and position R
is engaged, and
>
The parking brake is used to brake the
moving car to a standstill.
