2.6 MOTORS, ENCODER, TACHOMETER
TheconvertersoftheTPD32-EVseriesareprovidedfortheregulationofDCmotorswithanindependentexci-
tation.Asforspeedfeedbackthereistheuseofasinusoidalincrementalencoder,adigitalencoderorananalog
tachometergenerator.Incaseoflimitedprecisionneedsitispossibletouseasfeedbackthearmaturevoltage
withoutdeuxing.
2.6.1 Motors
Theelectricalandmechanicaldataofthedcmotorswithanindependentexcitationrefertoaparticularfunction-
ingeld.Thefollowingpointshavetobetakenintoconsiderationinordertooperatethesemotors:

note! Rememberthatwithathermorelayitispossibleonlytocontroltheheatingofthemotordue

thermistorsorthermalswitchesshouldbeinsertedinthemotorwindings.
Thermistors and thermal switches
Onterminals78and79itispossibletoconnectathermistororthermalswitchinordertodetectmotoroverheat-
ing.Whennotemperaturesensorsarepresentanexternalresistor(R=1kohm)hastobeconnectedtothese
terminals.Theconnectionofthesensorhastobedoneaccordingthefollowinginstructions.
Thermistors (PTC)
PTCthermistorsaccordingtoDIN44081or44082ttedinthemotorcanbeconnecteddirectlytotheconvertervie
terminals78and79.Inthiscasetheresistor(1kohm)mountedbetweentheterminals78,79hastoberemoved.
Thermal switches (klixons) in the motor windings
Temperature-dependentcontacts“klixon”typecandisconnectthedriveviatheexternalcontrolorcanbereported
asanexternalerrorontheconverter(terminal15).Theycanalsobeconnectedtotheterminals78and79in
ordertohaveaspecicerrorsignal.Inthiscaseremovethe1kohmresistorfromtheseterminalsandconnect
itinseriestothewiring.
Limitation of the converter current
Thecurrentlimitationcanprotectthemotorfromunwantedoverloads.Tothispurposeitisnecessarytoset
thecurrentlimitationandthecontrolfunctionoftheconverteroverload(overloadfunction),sothatthecurrent
remainswithinthevaluesallowedforthemotor.

toanoverload,butnottheoneduetoaninsufcientventilation.ForthispurposesomePTC
thermistorsorthermalswitchesshouldbeinsertedinthemotorwindings.
