Lever Inspection and Adjustment
B827H10206019
NOTE
Adjust the rear brake by adjusting the brake
pedal first and then adjust the brake lever.
Brake Pedal Free Travel
1) Inspect the brake pedal free travel “a”. Adjust the
brake pedal free travel if necessary.
Brake pedal free travel “a”
20 – 30 mm (0.8 – 1.2 in)
2) Turn the adjuster nut (1) so the brake pedal has 20 –
30 mm (0.8 – 1.2 in) free travel at the brake pedal
end before pressure is felt.
3) Adjust the rear brake light switch (2) so that the
brake light will come on just before pressure is felt
when the brake pedal is depressed.
Rear Brake (Parking Brake) Lever Play
1) After adjusting the brake pedal, check the rear brake
lever play “a”. The brake lever play “a” as measured
at the lever holder should be between 3 – 5 mm (0.1
– 0.2 in) when the lever is lightly pulled in towards
the grip. If adjustment is necessary, slacken the
cable by loosening the lock-nut (1) and screwing the
cable adjuster (2) on the brake lever holder all the
way in.
Rear brake lever play “a”
3 – 5 mm (0.1 – 0.2 in)
2) Turn the adjust nut (3) so the rear brake lever has 3
– 5 mm (0.1 – 0.2 in) play “a” before pressure is felt.
3) Minor adjustment can be made with the adjuster (2).
Tighten the lock-nut (1).
4) After adjusting the play, check that the rear wheels
rotate freely with applying no brake, the transmission
in neutral and the rear wheels off the ground.
Readjust the rear brake lever if the rear wheels could
not rotate freely.
5) Reinstall the brake lever boot.
