Below the minimum level mark Remove
the left footboard mat, coolant reservoir cap
access panel “1”, and coolant reservoir cap,
and then add the recommended coolant to
the proper level.

• Adding water instead of coolant lowers the
antifreeze content of the coolant. If water is
used instead of coolant check, and if nec-
essary, correct the antifreeze concentra-
tion of the coolant.
• Use only distilled water. However, if dis-
tilled water is not available, soft water may
be used.
3. Start the engine, warm it up for several min-
utes, and then turn it off.
4. Check:
• Coolant level
Before checking the coolant level, wait a few
minutes until it settles.

CHECKING THE COOLING SYSTEM
1. Remove:
• Bottom side cowling
• Side panel
• Radiator cover
• Bottom center cowling
Refer to “GENERAL CHASSIS (1)” on
page 4-1.
• Center cover
• Fuel tank cover assembly
• Side cover
• Rear side cowling assembly
• Footboard
Refer to “GENERAL CHASSIS (2)” on
page 4-11.
2. Check:
• Radiator “1”
• Radiator inlet hose “2”
• Radiator outlet hose “3”
• Radiator filler pipe “4”
• Radiator filler hose “5”
• Oil cooler outlet hose “6”
• Oil cooler inlet hose “7”
• Oil cooler “8”
• Thermostat housing “9”
• Cooling system air bleed hose “10”
• Coolant reservoir hose “11”
• Water pump “12”
• Water pump inlet pipe “13”
• Water pump outlet pipe “14”
Cracks/damage Replace.
Refer to “RADIATOR” on page 6-3, “THER-
MOSTAT” on page 6-9 and “WATER PUMP”
on page 6-11.
3. Install:
• Footboard
• Rear side cowling assembly
• Side cover
• Fuel tank cover assembly
• Center cover
