Navigation
Safety
The navigation system means you no
longer have to read maps during a journey.
It therefore constitutes a significant contri-
bution towards improved road safety.
Only enter data when the car is
standing still, and always obey the
traffic regulations and road signs to avoid
any conflict between the traffic situation
and the instructions given by the navigation
system. Failure to do so may result in an
infringement of traffic laws and put the
car's occupants and other road users at
risk.
<
GPS
GPS stands for Global Positioning System.
This is part of the navigation system, and
uses satellite signals to determine your
car's position. The distance between the
car and at least three separate satellites is
measured.
These data, which are picked up by the
car's aerial and the GPS receiver, are
supplied to the navigation system
computer. In the computer they are
combined with further information deter-
mined with the aid of the car's ABS
sensors, the inertial sensor in the naviga-
tion computer and the digitised road map
on the CD.
As a result, the navigation system is able to
guide you efficiently and reliably to any
map destination you select.
Map CD
Map CDs are inserted in the navigation
computer, which is located behind the
cover on the left of the luggage compart-
ment.
To be quite certain that your car's naviga-
tion system has the latest road network
information at its disposal, always load it
with the most recent CD version of the digi-
tised road map.
Map CDs, like conventional road maps, are
periodically updated on the basis of obser-
vations and survey data.
Map CDs are available from BMW
Service, see the list of Service
outlets.
<
Map CD: changing
If your navigation system indicates that you
are about to leave the area covered by the
map CD currently inserted, you should
change the map CD in the navigation
computer.
Map CDs contain road maps covering one
or more countries or regions.
To change the m ap CD:
1. Press the button
The CD is ejected from the navigation
computer
2. Remove the CD
