You can switch to the handset e.g. if you do not wish other
passengers to hear what the other person is saying.
The hands-free unit is switched off if you make or accept a
call with the handset.
Telephoning by means of the handset while driving is
dangerous and is illegal in almost all countries. Use
the telephone in conjunction with a hands-free unit, or pull
over in a suitable place where you will not endanger other
road users.

Microphone muting
If you are using the handset to conduct a conversation, you
can switch its microphone on or off. With the microphone
switched off, the other person will not hear e.g. what you
say to other occupants of the car.
