Control display
You can call up the phone book, the Top-8
list and the redial list in the "Communica-
tion" menu. You can also read SMS
messages and details of missed calls.
Hands-free unit
On cars prepared for telephone installation,
there is a hands-free microphone in the
roof lining.
The hands-free unit is switched on if you
make or accept a call with the following
items of equipment:

Button in the steering wheel
>
Control display
>
Phone board
>
Voice input system.
Making an emergency call
In order to make an emergency call:
>
The mobile phone network must be
receivable
>
The emergency call system must be
operational.
It is possible to make an emergency call in
the GSM network even without a SIM card
inserted.
Remove the cover and hold the button
pressed for at least 1 second.
You can interrupt the emergency call
within 5 seconds. Confirm the
"Cancel" query in the control display.

The indicator light in the button comes on.
As soon as voice contact is established, the
indicator light starts to flash.
On cars with a navigation system where
BMW Assist has been initialised, telephone
contact is established with the BMW Assist
emergency call centre if you have entered
the PIN. The car's current position is trans-
mitted to the emergency call centre. A
confirmation message appears in the
control display when the data have been
received. Rescue measures can be initi-
ated immediately by the emergency call
centre.
A phone link is established with the general
emergency services number 112 if:
>
BMW Assist has not been initialised
>
No contact can be established with the
BMW Assist emergency call centre after
repeated attempts, even though BMW
Assist has been initialised.
