VERTICAL SPEED MODE (VS)
InVerticalSpeedMode,theightdirectoracquiresandmaintainsaVerticalSpeedReference.Currentaircraft
vertical speed (to the nearest 100 fpm) becomes the Vertical Speed Reference at the moment of Vertical Speed
Mode activation. This modemay be used for climb or descent to theSelected Altitude (shown above the
Altimeter) since Selected AltitudeCaptureModeisautomaticallyarmedwhenVerticalSpeedModeisselected.

Key,‘VS’isannunciatedingreenintheAFCSStatus
BoxalongwiththeVertical Speed Reference. The Vertical Speed Reference is also displayed above the Vertical

the indicator.
