Troubleshooting
Power Switch Troubleshooting
The power switch is connected to the system/Core I/O card via a cable. Use Table 3-3 to
determine the error condition and suggested action:

PowerTrust UPS Online Error Messages
When you see online error messages concerning the PowerTrust UPS, do the following
steps.
1. Ensure that the PowerTrust Unit configuration is correct.
2. Ensure that you are using a supported PowerTrust UPS.
3. Make sure the RS-232 cable is the one intended for the UPS connection to the system.
The UPS cable has a special pin configuration, and is labeled "UPS" at one end. A
regular RS-232 cable will not work with the UPS.
4. Make sure the cable is properly connected.
NOTE
If there is NO Access port card in the computer, the UPS data cable
attaches to the connector marked
Serial 2/UPS
at the back of the
computer. If there is an Access Port card installed, the UPS data cable goes
to the RS232 connector on the Access Port card.
For more detailed information about PowerTrust UPS error messages displayed by
HP-UX, refer to the appropriate PowerTrust documentation and the manpages for
ups_mond(1M) and ups_conf(4).
Symptom Cause Action
System does not power up
when power switch is on (no
error messages on Display
Panel).
Power switch position not
being detected by the
system/Core I/O card, or the
Power switch is defective
1. Replace the system/Core I/O
card.
2. Replace Power switch assembly.
