Configure the boot array
EMC CONFIDENTIAL
Step 1: Verify power cables are disconnected
Before powering on the boot array, complete the following steps:
1. If the VG2/VG8 is in a cabinet by itself (that is, the storage array is not in the same
cabinet with the VG2/VG8), then turn off the cabinet circuit breakers to remove
all power from the VG2/VG8 cabinet.
2. Verify that both VG2/VG8 blade enclosure power cables are disconnected from
the cabinet Power Distribution Panel (PDP). You will connect these power cables
later.
3. Verify that each Control Station power cable is disconnected from the PDP. You
will connect these power cables later.
Step 2: Power up the boot array
It is important to power on the VNX VG2/VG8 gateway components and connected
array/SAN components in the correct order.
Note: If you are connecting the VNX gateway to an existing array, there is no reason to power
down the array and then power it on again.
1. If the boot storage array is off, power it up. Follow the instructions in the array
documentation.
Note: Some arrays do not have separate power switches on each component; the power
switches are on the standby power supplies (SPSs).
2. If the FC/FCoE switches are not powered up, power them up now.
3. If you have a Symmetrix array, go to Chapter 9, “Install and Configure EMC NAS
Software.”
If you are using a Symmetrix array for your boot array, you must have EMC
configure the array with the required hypervolumes for the VNX system
volumes and user volumes before continuing.
