Add additional arrays
A fabric-connected gateway system can store user data on more than one array. Once
you have configured the boot array, you can configure additional arrays to hold user
data. This section describes how to configure additional arrays.
“Adding an array” on page 150
“Adding a Symmetrix array” on page 154
Adding an array
Note: Security for the CX-series and CX3 series is optional. For the CX4 and VNX series,
security is required. When you set up the array by using Unisphere or Navisphere CLI, you
must configure a user with administrative privileges. Do this step before adding the array to
the gateway system. When adding the array, you will be asked for a username and password.
A gateway system can store data on more than one array. The first array configured is
always the boot array and must contain the system LUNs (also called control LUNs)
or hypervolumes (Symmetrix).
Refer to the EMC E-Lab
Interoperability Navigator on Powerlink
®
for the number
and types of arrays supported.
By default, the setup script automatically creates zones for only FC switches (FCoE
switches must be manually zoned). The setup script supports FC switches from the
following manufacturers: McDATA, Brocade, and Cisco. Refer to the E-Lab
Interoperability Navigator on Powerlink for supported firmware revisions of your
switch.
Note: The script cannot automatically zone the FC switch if it contains uncommitted or
unsaved configurations. You must save uncommitted or unsaved configurations before you
continue.
Also, the script cannot automatically zone the FC switch if the switch password is still set to its
default value. You must set the switch password to something other than the default before
you can use the script.
The FC switches used for connecting the blades to the backend storage must have unique
domain IDs if they reside on different fabrics.
CAUTION
!
While the FC switch is being automatically zoned, there should be no other
administration of the SAN or FC switches through other management tools to
prevent concurrent switch zoning actions on the SAN.
If you want to manually zone the FC or FCoE switch (the FCoE switch must be
manually zoned) and create the storage groups for the new array, Appendix F,
“Manually Zone Switches and Configure System LUNs,” provides more information.
Additional arrays must be connected to the same switch as the gateway system.
