Cable Connections from Fibre Channel Switch to Storage
EMC CONFIDENTIAL
Connecting a CLARiiON CX4-960 array
Each CX4-960 SP has eight, twelve, or sixteen SAN ports, with four, eight, or twelve
ports available for connections to SAN fabrics. If all of the SAN ports on the array are
already connected to the fabric, you need not change these connections. If the array
has two available ports on each SP, the recommended practice is to cable these ports
to the switches and dedicate them to the VNX gateway system.
If you are using two switches to connect a CX4-960 array, connect the cables as shown
in the example in Figure 169.
Figure 169 CX4-960 connected to two switches for high availability (example)
The array SAN ports 2 and 3 are used in this example, but you can use any two
available ports on each SP:
1. Connect SP A slot 0, port 2 to switch A.
2. Connect SP B slot 0, port 2 to switch A.
3. Connect SP A slot 0, port 3 to switch B.
4. Connect SP B slot 0, port 3 to switch B.
5. Record the SP ports you connected to the switch ports by using the “FC/FCoE
cabling worksheet” on page 273.
