Creating control LUNs on CLARiiON array
The control LUNs (also called system LUNs) store the blade software, log files, and
configuration information on the array. For VNX gateways booting from a CX storage
array, you must create six control LUNs on five unused Fibre Channel disks.
As part of creating the control LUNs on a storage array, you will perform the
following tasks:
1. “Create storage group” on page 303
2. “Register blade ports” on page 303
3. “Add blades to storage group” on page 306
4. “Create RAID group” on page 306
5. “Bind LUNs” on page 307
6. “Add control LUNs to storage group” on page 307
7. “Create hot spare disk” on page 309
8. “Verify LUN creation” on page 309
Create storage
group
If you are using Navisphere Manager, complete the following steps to create a new
storage group on the array. This storage group allows the blades to access their
storage on the array:
1. Right-click the array name on the main Navisphere page, and select Create
Storage Group from the menu.
2. Enter a value for Storage Group Name. For example, you could name the new
storage group VG2.
3. Click OK.
Register blade ports
If you are using Navisphere Manager, complete the following steps to register the
blade ports:
1. Right-click the storage-system name on the main Navisphere page, and select
Connectivity Status from the menu. A list of initiator records appears (see
Figure 178 on page 304). Each record represents a blade port that is connected to
the CLARiiON array.
Note: All gateway systems attached to the same array must have unique network
addresses in the Navisphere Initiator Record Host IP Address field, so that the Navisphere
Host display for those gateways will appear correctly in Navisphere.
