Create hot spare
disk
Verify that a hot spare Fibre Channel disk is available on the array. If the array does
not have one, create a hot spare disk using Navisphere Manager:
1. Verify that an unused disk is available in the array. The hot spare disk must be a
Fibre Channel disk that is as large as the largest Fibre Channel disk in the array
and cannot be disk 0 through disk 4 on shelf 0.
2. Right-click the array name and select Create RAID Group.
3. Select a value for RAID Group ID. We recommend you follow a numbering
convention for hot spares that is distinct from the IDs you use for other RAID
groups.
4. Specify Number of Disks as 1.
5. Select the disk type of the default disk selected. If it is not a Fibre Channel disk,
select Manual in the Disk Selection field, and then click Select. Use the arrow
buttons to select and move a single Fibre Channel disk to the Selected Disks box.
You may need to scroll right to see the disk type. Then click OK.
6. Accept the default values for the remaining fields, and then click Apply to create
the new RAID group.
7. Expand the RAID group list under the array, right-click the new RAID group you
just created, and then select Bind LUN.
8. For RAID Type, select Hot Spare: Hot Spare Replacement.
9. Verify the RAID Group for new LUN field shows the ID of the RAID group you
just created.
10. Select a value for LUN ID. We recommend you follow a numbering convention
for hot spares that is distinct from the IDs you use for other LUNs.
11. Accept the default values for the remaining fields, and then click Apply to create
the new LUN. The new hot spare can stand in for any failed Fibre Channel disk in
the array.
Verify LUN creation
Wait for the LUNs to complete binding.
If you are using Navisphere Manager, verify that the LUNs were created with the
correct parameters, including being assigned to SP A and having Enable Auto
Assign disabled.
