PRECAUTIONS
VF8 DELTA/DELTA XL/KAPPA 23-5
For N
2
O measurements, accuracy is maintained to a respiratory rate of 75
BPM with an I:E ratio of 1:2.
For anesthetic agents, accuracy is maintained to a respiratory rate of 60 BPM
with an I:E ratio of 1:2.
The effect of respiratory rate and I:E ratio settings on accuracy were determined in a
simulated breathing system using square wave gas concentration waveforms.
Precautions
Refer to the general precautions section for etCO
2
/gas analysis.
WARNING:
Clinicians should adjust the fresh gas supply as
needed to correct for the reduction in delivered patient
tidal volume due to sampling of respiratory gases.
Monitoring of oxygen concentration is necessary
during low flow anesthesia due to accumulation of
exhaled metabolic products. If the oxygen
concentration is decreasing, flush the breathing circuit
with fresh gas at regular intervals.
The presence of aerosols in the breathing circuit
should be avoided (displayed agent concentration may
be affected and/or watertrap membrane may be
affected).
Always use Dräger-specified Scio polypropylene
sampling tubing. Never use standard pressure-sensor
tubing (PVC) because it absorbs anesthetic agents,
which are released later (degassing) resulting in
erroneous agent concentration readings.
CAUTION:
To prevent damage to the water trap and measuring system do not use the water
trap with nebulizers; do not allow alcohol, cleaning agents or disinfectants to
enter the water trap; do not wash or sterilize the water trap.
The presence of organic cleaning solutions or gases containing freon will impair
the accuracy of the Scio module.
Mechanical vibrations or shock can adversely affect the accuracy of the Scio
module’s gas measurements.
Under extreme monitoring conditions (and if a network functionality is in use)
intermittent spikes may be present on the Scio waveform. Parameter box data is
not affected.
