6. Secure the exhaust camshaft using a
wrench 3, and then remove the driven
sprockets 5. NOTICE: When removing
the driven sprocket, do not turn the
exhaust camshaft. Otherwise, the
intake and exhaust valves could col-
lide with each other and be damaged.
7. Loosen the camshaft cap bolts gradually
in several stages and in the order 1, 2,
and so on, and then remove the cam-
shaft caps 6, 7, 8, and 9. Take pre-
caution not to tilt the camshafts.
8. Remove the camshafts 0, A, B, and C
and oil seals D, and then remove the
valve lifters E.
TIP:
Make sure to keep the parts in the order as
they were removed.
Checking the sprocket
1. Check the VCT assemblies and driven
sprockets. Replace the VCT assembly or
driven sprocket if cracked, damaged, or
worn.
Checking the valve lifter
1. Check the valve lifters. Replace if dam-
aged, scratched, or worn.
2. Measure the valve lifter outside diameter.
