components.Themanufacturerrecommendsinspectingtherackandpinionandreplacingifdamaged.
RACKANDPINIONINSPECTION
1.Lookforobviousdamagetothechassis,wheretherackandpinionismounted,andtherackandpinionhousing.
Particularlycheckthehousingforbrokenmountingpoints.
2.Comparethetoe-inagainstthespecication.SeeTow-inAdjustment.
3.Ifobviousvisibledamageisfound,suchasabenttierod,checkthesteeringgearforabnormalfree-play,noise,
bindingorclunkingwhileitisunderaload.Withthesteeringsystemfullyassembledandallfourtiresonthe
ground/oor,turnthesteeringwheelfromstoptostop.Whileturning,feelforanybinding,clunkingortight/loose
spots.Listenforunusualnoises.Replacetherackandpinionasanassemblyifanyisfound.
4.Intheeventofanknownimpactandobviousvisibledamageisnotfoundinthemethoddescribedabove,
disconnectthetierodsand/ordraglinksfromthespindles.Turnthesteeringwheelfromstoptostop.While
turning,feelforanybindingortight/loosespots.Listenforunusualnoises.Replacetherackandpinionasan
assemblyifanyisfound.
