thetransaxleistoberemovedfromthevehicle,donotremovethewheels,axleshafts,oraxletubesrst.Instructions
forremovingthetransaxlefromthevehiclebeginonpage24-9.
NOTE:Theaxleshaftoilseals(7)arelocatedinthetransaxlegearcase(4),nottheaxletubes(2)(Figure24-5,Page
24-6).Theaxletubesmustberemovedinordertoreplacetheseoilseals.

Thetransaxlehastwoaxleshafts.Ifonlyatubeorshaftistobeserviced,itcanbedoneonesideatatimewithout
removingthetransaxle.
1.Cleandebrisfromdrainplugandareaarounditatthebottomofthetransaxle.Drainoil.Installplugafterdraining.
2.Ifremovingentiretransaxlefromvehicle,removethetransaxleandcleanitinpreparationfordisassembly.See
TransaxleRemovalonpage24-9.SeefollowingNOTE.
NOTE:Aftercleaning,movetransaxletoacleanlocationbeforedisassembly.
3.Ifremovingonlyoneaxletubeorshaftfromvehicle,cleanthattubeandhubinpreparationfordisassembly.
4.Removehub.SeeRearHubRemovalonpage24-4.
5.Removetheveange-headbolts(1)securingaxletube(2)totransaxle(Figure24-5,Page24-6).
6.Avoidingdamagecausedbydraggingsplinesacrosslipofoilseal(7)intransaxlegearcase,carefullypull
axletube(2)andshaft(3)fromtransaxle.
