Therearetwoplugslocatedonthelowerhalfofthetransaxlehousing.Theupperplug(21)(asviewedwhenthe
vehicleisonalevelsurface)isusedasalubricantlevelindicator(Figure17-5,Page17-3).Whenthevehicle
isparkedonalevelsurface,thelubricantlevelshouldbeevenwiththebottomofthehole.Thelowerplug(22)is
fordrainingthelubricant.Whendrainingthelubricant,theupperplugshouldberemovedsothelubricantwilldrain
faster.Besurethedrainplugisinstalledbeforelling.SeefollowingNOTE.
NOTE:Recycleordisposeofusedoilorlubricantinaccordancewithlocal,state,andfederalregulations.

1.Disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethecontroller.SeeDisconnecttheBatteries–ElectricVehicles

2.Placechocksatthefrontwheels.Loosenlugnutsonrearwheelsandlifttherearofthevehiclewithachain
hoistoroorjack.Placejackstandsundertheaxletubestosupportthevehicle.SeeWARNING“Liftonlyone
end...”inGeneralWarningsonpage1-2.
3.Removetherearwheelandbrakedrum.Section6—WheelBrakeAssembliesSection8—WheelsandTires
4.Use90°internalsnapringplierstoremovetheinternalretainingring(6)fromtheaxletube(Figure17-5,Page
17-3).SeealsoFigure17-1,Page17-2.
5.Removetheaxle,retainingring,andbearingassemblybypullingtheaxlestraightoutofthehousing.
6.Ifnecessary,removetheaxleoilsealandadapterring.
6.1.Useabearingpullertoremovetheaxlesealandadapterringfromtheaxletube(Figure17-2,Page17-2).

CAUTION
•Donotscarordamagetheinsidesurfacesofthetubewhenremovingtheoilsealandadapterring.A
damagedtubemighthavetobereplaced.
NOTE:Donotdiscardtheadapterring.Iftheadapterringislostordamaged,theaxletubewillhavetobereplaced.
Varyingrearaxlecongurationshavebeeninstalledonvehicles.Ifreplacingaxletubes,takenoteofindividual
axletubelengthstoensurepropert.
