BATTERYREMOVAL

1.TurnthekeyswitchOFFandremovethekey.PlacetheForward/Neutral/ReversehandleintheNEUTRAL
position.Chockthewheels.
2.Disconnectbatteryandsparkplugwire.SeeDisconnecttheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
3.Removethebatteryhold-downclampfromthebattery.
4.Liftthebatteryfromthevehicle.SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
•Keepthebatteryinanuprightpositiontopreventelectrolyteleakage.Tippingthebatterybeyonda
45°angleinanydirectioncanallowasmallamountofelectrolytetoleakoutoftheventhole.Donot
exceedthis45°anglewhenlifting,carryingorinstallingbattery.Thebatteryacidcouldcausesevere
personalinjurywhenaccidentallycomingincontactwiththeskinoreyes,andcoulddamageclothing.
CHARGINGTHEBATTERY
AlsoseeDANGERatbeginningofBatterytopic.
1.Chargethebatteryusinganautomotivetype12-voltbatterycharger.Followallwarningsandproceduressupplied
bythebatterychargermanufacturer.
2.Attachthepositive(+)chargercabletothepositive(+)batterypost.
3.Attachthenegative(–)chargercabletothenegative(–)batterypost.
4.Thebatterymaybechargedwithaslowcharge(3to10amps)orafastcharge(20to30amps).Chargeuntil
thebatteryvoltageisgreaterthan12.4volts.SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
•Ifthebatterycasefeelshot(approximately125°F(52°C)ormore),emitsgases,oruidboilsfrom
vents,stopchargingimmediately.Failuretostopchargingbatterywhenanyoftheseconditionsare
presentcouldresultinanexplosion,personalinjuryand/ordamagetothebattery.
•DonotdisconnectthechargerDCleadsfromthebatterywhenthechargerison.Theresultingarcing
betweentheDCleadsandbatterypostcouldcauseanexplosion.
•Ifthechargermustbestopped,disconnecttheACsupplycordfromthewalloutletbefore
disconnectingtheDCleadsfromthebattery.Allowthebatterytocooltoroomtemperatureand
resumechargingbatteryataloweramprate.
BATTERYINSTALLATION
AlsoseeDANGERatbeginningofBatterytopic.
1.Placethebatteryintothevehiclewiththebatterypostsfacingtheengine.
2.Securethebatterytothevehiclewiththeclampandinstallbolt,washerandlocknutandtightento41lb·in(4.3
N·m).Aloosebatteryclampmayallowthebatterytobecomedamagedfromvibrationorjarring.
3.Connectbatteryandsparkplugwire.SeeConnecttheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-4.
