8.2.1 Dialing Plan Features
This section discusses various dialing plan features supported by the device:

8.2.1.1 Dialing Plan Notation for Routing and Manipulation
The device supports flexible dialing plan notations for representing digits (single or
multiple) entered for destination and source prefixes (of phone numbers and SIP URI user
names) in the routing and manipulation tables.
Table 8-1: Dialing Plan Notations
Notation Description Example
[n-m]
Represents a range of numbers.
Note: Range of letters is not
supported.
 [5551200-5551300]#: represents all
numbers from 5551200 to 5551300.
 123[100-200]: represents all numbers
from 123100 to 123200.
[n,m,...]
Represents multiple numbers. Up
to three digits can be used to
denote each number.
 [2,3,4,5,6]#: represents a one-digit
number starting with 2, 3, 4, 5, or 6.
 [11,22,33]xxx#: represents a five-digit
number that starts with 11, 22, or 33.
 [111,222]xxx#: represents a six-digit
number that starts with 111 or 222.
[n1-m1,n2-
m2,a,b,c,n3-m3]
Represents a mixed notation of
multiple ranges and single
numbers.
Note: The ranges and the single
numbers must have the same
number of digits. For example,
each number range and single
number in the dialing plan [123-
130,455,577,780-790] consists of
three digits.
[123-130,455,766,780-790]: represents
numbers 123 to 130, 455, 766, and 780 to
790.
x
Represents any single digit. -
Pound sign (#)
at the end of a
number
Represents the end of a number. 54324xx#: represents a 7-digit number that
starts with 54324.
A single asterisk
(*)
Represents any number. *: represents any number (i.e., all numbers).
