9.2 Configuring SNMP Community Strings
The SNMP Community String page lets you configure up to five read-only and up to five
read-write SNMP community strings and to configure the community string that is used for
sending traps. The SNMP community string determines the access privileges (read-only or
read-write) of SNMP clients to the device's SNMP.
Note: SNMP community strings are used only for SNMPv1 and SNMPv2c; SNMPv3
uses username-
password authentication along with an encryption key (see
''Configuring SNMP V3 Users'' on page 112).
For detailed descriptions of the SNMP parameters, see ''SNMP Parameters'' on page 835.
 To configure SNMP community strings:
1. Open the SNMP Community String page (Configuration tab > System menu >
Management > SNMP > SNMP Community String).
2. Configure SNMP community strings according to the table below.
3. Click Submit, and then save ("burn") your settings to flash memory.
To delete a community string, select the Delete check box corresponding to the community
string that you want to delete, and then click Submit.
