User's Manual 662 Document #: LTRT-89730
Mediant 3000
• OAMP: 10/100BaseT Ethernet ports labeled 2A (bottom PEM module) and 2B
(top PEM module)
Notes:
• Physical Network Separation is supported only for Mediant 3000 housing TP-
8410.
• Physical Network Separation supports three interfaces (OAMP, Control, and
Media) and all three must be configured when operating in Physical Network
Separation mode.
• When the Physical Network Separation mode is enabled, user VLANs are not
supported.
• For more information on cabling for Physical network Separation, refer to the
Hardware Installation Manual.
Each TP-8410 blade (Active and Redundant) has its own dedicated and redundant
physical GBE port for Media (or Media and Control) traffic. This interface is directly
available through the RTM. The other four Ethernet ports are available through the PEM
module, but are shared by both blades. The active blade is the one connected to these
ports.
39.1 Configuring Physical Network Separation
You can configure the device for Physical Network Separation using either the Web
interface or ini file, as described below.
 To configure the device for Physical Network Separation using the Web
interface:
1. Open the Interface table (see ''Configuring IP Network Interfaces'' on page 145).
2. Depending on the port allocation scheme for Physical Network Separation, configure
network interfaces in the Interface table:
• Dedicated Port for OAMP and Dedicated Port for Media and Control:
Configure two interfaces, one for OAMP and one for Media and Control.
• Dedicated Port per Application Type: Configure three interfaces, one for each
application type (OAMP, Media, and Control), as shown in the example below:
Figure 39-2: Interface Configuration for Dedicated Port per Application Type
3. From the 'Network Physical Separation' drop-down list, select Enable; a message box
appears notifying you that traffic will be designated to different ports.
4. Click OK to close the message box.
5. From the 'Physical Separation Configuration' drop-down list, select one of the
following:
• [0] 3 Interfaces: M + C+ OAMP = (Default) Each interface is allocated a
dedicated port.
• [1] 3 Interfaces: M&C + OAMP = Media and Control are allocated to the same
port (GE port of RTM) and OAMP allocated to a dedicated port (Port 2 of PEM).
