T200 User's Manual SECTION 6: T200 FUNCTIONAL OVERVIEW
PAGE 6-70
6.13 Communications Interfaces
6.13.1 Axis Identification
See Section 3.18 for an overview of set-up of the axis-ID switches to set the T200 communications network address.
6.13.2 Communications Protocol
The T200 supports two protocols over its RS232 and RS485 communications links. These are:-
1. Hand Held Terminal Pneumonics Protocol. Simple 1, to 5 letter strings (followed by a <CR> Carriage Return)
are used as command verbs which operate on particular parameters. The user enters a parameter value where
appropriate. This protocol is used to support simple interfaces like the Hand Held Terminal or PC-based Terminal
Emulation Programs (e.g. MS-Windows HyperTerm). This protocol is described in Section 8.
2. 'PSC' Protocol. This protocol is intended as an interface to machine controllers via RS232 and RS485. It supports
read and write of many data types, including floats, longs, integers, booleans and file-blocks. This protocol is
described in this section.
6.13.2.0 Introduction
This specification describes the serial set-up protocol that allows access to T200 parameters over RS232 or RS485 serial
networks.
T200 acts as a slavedevice that only responds to messages sent by a Host mastercontroller. The Host can be any PC,
PLC or other intelligent device that is capable of implementing the communication protocol. Use of the serial channel
permits the control Host to read or modify most T200 parameters .
T200 parameters can be 4 bytes (Long or Float parameters) or 2 bytes (Word parameters) in size. Each parameter also
has an identifying number appropriately called the Parameter Number. All data is represented as 2s complement, sign
extended with the least significant byte as the first byte in a muli-byte value.
6.13.2.1 Serial Link Signal Specification
Communications Parameters Specification
Baud rate 9600
Start bits 1
Stop bits 1
Parity None
Data bits 8
Signal Connections
Serial connections on the T200 Card are accessed via a 9 way D type female connector designated J4 . Refer to
Section 3.18 for wiring details.
