7.4 RS232 and RS485 Communication
RS232 is a serial data standard, which allows WinDrive to communicate directly to a single drive. Both WinDrive
software and the physical link between the PC and the Drive must be configured correctly, in order to establish
communication.
The RS-Type must be set as RS232 at WinDrive start-up. If the user is unsure of the RS-Type, the RS-Type can be reset
by selecting the Low Level/Reset Comm menu item. WinDrive then sends the initial character sequence (Ctrl P,S,C) to
the drive, to switch into the required protocol. WinDrive generates requests to determine the drive type, motor and
software version. A timeout of 20 seconds is implemented on these requests, which will result in an error message if
WinDrive is unable to establish communication.
An RS232 connection must be made between the selected Comm-Port of the PC and the Serial Port 9-Way D-Type
connector J4 on the front panel of the drive.
