REMOVING THE CAMSHAFTS
1. Remove:
● Timing plug “1”
2. Align:
● “I”mark “a” on the A.C. magneto rotor (with
the stationary pointer “b” on the A.C. magne-
to cover)

a. Turn the crankshaft counterclockwise.
b. When piston #1 is at TDC on the compres-
sion stroke, align the “I” mark “a” with the sta-
tionary pointer “b” on the A.C magneto cover
NOTE:
● TDC on the compression stroke can be found
when the camshaft lobes are turned away from
each other.
● In order to be sure that the piston is at TDC, the
alignment mark “c” on the intake camshaft
sprocket and the alignment mark “d” on the ex-
haust camshaft sprocket must align with the
cylinder head mating surface as shown in the
illustration.

3. Remove:
● Timing chain tensioner “1”
● Timing chain tensioner gasket “2”
4. Remove:
CAUTION:

Before removing the camshafts from the cyl-
inder head, tilt up the engine at least 25°.
● Intake camshaft cap “1”
● Exhaust camshaft cap “2”
● Dowel pins
CAUTION:
ECA15B1023
To prevent damage to the cylinder head,
camshafts or camshaft caps, loosen the
camshaft cap bolts in stages and in a criss-
cross pattern, working from the outside in.
