ProgrammingCONTROLLERDIAGNOSTICTOOL(CDT)
FLD(FIELD)MISSING
Ifthespeedcontrollerisoperatingatadutycycleofgreaterthan90%(almostfullspeed)andtheeldcurrentisless
than3amps,aeldmissingfaultisdetectedbythespeedcontroller.
CAUTION
•Afailedmotorwillruinacontroller.Ifanewcontrollerisinstalledinavehiclewithabadmotor,the
badmotorwillblowtheeldFETinthenewcontroller.Alwayscheckthemotorbeforereplacinga
controllerwhenaFLDMissingfaultisshown.
Whatitmeans:Notnecessarilyacontrollerissue.
Whattodo:Checkinthisorder:connectionsandcontinuityoforangeandbluemotoreldwires,shortinmotor,
andthencontroller.SeeExternalMotorTesting,Section16,Page16-1.
HWFAILSAFE
ThearmaturedriveFETs(eldeffecttransistors)regulatethearmaturecurrent.Ifthespeedcontrollerdetectsafailure
ofthearmaturedriveFET sorcircuitry,ahardwarefailsafefaultisdetected.
Whatitmeans:Acatastrophicfailureinternaltothecontrolleroneitherthepowerboardorthelogicboard.
Whattodo:Checkmotorbeforereplacingcontroller.
FAULTHISTORY
Thefaulthistorymenucanbeusefulindeterminingthecauseofavehicleproblem;however,thefaulthistoryalone
shouldnotbethefactorthatdetermineswhenacomponentisreplaced.Somefaultsdetectedbythespeedcontroller
arenottheresultofafailedcomponent,andareinsteadtheresultofvehicleoperatorerror.Ifafaultappearsinthe
faulthistorymenu,thetrainedtechnicianshouldattempttodeterminewhenandwherethefaulthasoccurred.For
example,ifthemotorstallfaultispresentinthefaulthistory,thetrainedtechnicianmaybeabletodeterminethe
locationonthecoursewhereanoperatorhasheldthevehicleonahillbyusingtheacceleratorpedal.
CLEARFAULTHISTORY
Afterarepairhasbeenmade,thefaulthistoryshouldbecleared.Thiswillenablethetrainedtechniciantoproperly
troubleshootthevehicleinthefuture,intheeventthatanotherproblemoccurs.Itisrecommendedthatthefaulthistory
beclearedinordertoavoidthereplacementofacomponentthatcausedafaultinthepast,buthasbeenreplacedand
isnowfunctioningcorrectly.Forexample,iftheMCOR(MotorControllerOutputRegulator)wasdisconnectedandthe
speedcontrollerdetectedafaultcodeassociatedwiththethrottle,thefaulthistoryshouldbeclearedsothatanyfuture
problemisnotdiagnosedincorrectlyasathrottleproblem.SeeFaultHistoryFolderonpage11-14.
PROGRAMMING
TheProgrammingmenuisaccessedbyusingthearrowkeystohighlightProgrammingandpressingtheSelect
softkeytoactivatethemenu.
TheProgrammingmenuselectionallowstheusertosaveandrestoreparametersettingsles(.cpfles).Theseles
containcontrollerinformationandaresavedtotheinternalmemoryorSDcard.Oncesaved,theycanbeusedfor
futurereferenceoremailedwhentheCDTorSDcardisconnectedtoaPC.Forinformationonhowtosaveandrestore
theseles,refertothemanualsuppliedwiththeCDT.
