RACKANDPINIONREMOVAL
1.ElectricVehicle:Disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethecontroller.SeeDisconnectingtheBatteries–

GasolineVehicle:Disconnectbatteryandsparkplugwire(s).
SeeDisconnectingtheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
2.Removethefrontbumperasinstructed.Section4—BodyandTrim
3.Removethetierodendretainingnuts(2)(Figure7-4,Page7-4).
4.Removethetierodends(3)fromthespindleassemblies.
5.Removethethreebolts(5)fromthesteeringrackandpinionassemblymountingbracket.
6.Removetheupperbolt(7)fromtheuniversaljoint,thenremovetherackandpinionassemblyanduniversaljoint
fromthevehicle.
RACKANDPINIONINSTALLATION
1.Tominimizecorrosion,applyalightcoatofanti-seizelubricatingcompoundtotheendofthesteeringcolumnshaft.
2.Simultaneouslyslidetheuniversaljointoverthesquareendofthesteeringcolumnshaftandpositionthe
assemblyoverthemountingholesinthechassis.
3.Installthreescrews(5)tosecuretheassemblytothechassis.Tightenscrewsto22ft·lb(30N·m).
4.Installtheupperuniversaljointbolt(7)andtightento18.4ft·lb(25N·m)(Figure7-4,Page7-4).
5.Installthetierodends(3)intotheleft-andright-handspindletabs(4),andtheninstalltheretainingnuts(2)
(Figure7-4,Page7-4).SeefollowingWARNING.
