VALVECLEARANCECHECKANDADJUSTMENT
NOTE:Checkandadjustclearancewhentheengineiscold.
1.Ifequipped,removeairdeectorfromtopofengine.
2.Removerockercover.
3.Turnthecrankshaftuntilthepistonisattopdeadcenterofthecompressionstroke(Figure20-5,Page20-7).
4.Usingafeelergauge(1),measuretheclearancebetweentheadjusterscrew(3)andthetopofthevalvestem
(Figure20-6,Page20-7).
5.Ifnecessary,loosenthelocknut(2)andturntheadjuster(3)upordowntoadjusttheclearanceto0.0047in.
(0.12mm)forbothintakeandexhaust.Onceclearanceiscorrect,tightenthelocknut(2)to52in·lb(6N·m).
6.Afteradjustingvalveclearances,rotatethecrankshaftseveralfullrevolutionsandverifythattheintakeand
exhaustvalveclearancearestillcorrect.
AtTDC,thetwopunchmarksoncamsprocketareparallelwiththe
cylinderheadsurface.
