1.Aftermaintenanceonthebrakesystemiscomplete,lowerthevehicleontotheoor.Withthebrakepedalin
thefulluporatrestposition,adjusttheturnbuckle(1)untiltheproperbraketensionisachieved(Figure6-16,
Page6-8).Theturnbuckleisproperlyadjustedwhenthedistancefromthetopoftheequalizer(2)totheupper
angesurfaceis2inches(±1/16)(51mm(±1.6)).
2.Ensurethatboththreadedrodsarevisibleinthewitnessholesoftheturnbuckle(1)beforethejamnuts(3)
aretightened.
3.Snugthefrontandrearjamnutstotheirrespectivesurfaces,thenbackthenutsoff1/4to3/8inch(6.4to9.5mm)
andapplyLoctite
®
242onthethreadsforbothfrontandrearjamnuts.
4.Tightentherearjamnutrstto208in·lb(23.5N·m),thentightenthefrontjamnutto208in·lb(23.5N·m).See
followingWARNING.Foroptimalperformance,drivethevehicleandapplythebrakesapproximately20timesto
burnishtheshoes,centertheclusters,andadjustthebrakemechanism.

5.Oncesteps2and4arecomplete,recheckthe2-inchspecicationlistedinstep1.Ifthemeasurementhasnot
changed,theadjustmentiscomplete.Ifthemeasurementhaschanged,performsteps1through4again.
6.Replaceaccesspanelandoormat.
