2.Thebatterycablesshouldbedisconnectedfromthebatterysothebatterycanbeconnectedtothecharger.The
batterycanbeleftinthevehicle.Disconnectthenegative(–)cablerst.SeeDisconnectingtheBattery-
GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
3.Fullychargethebatterypriortostorage.
4.Storeinacool,dryarea.Thecoldertheareainwhichthebatteryisstored,thelessthebatterywillself-discharge.
Abatterystoredat0°F(-17.8°C)willdischargeverylittleoverafour-monthperiod.Abatterystoredat80°F
(27°C)willhavetoberechargedeveryfewweeks.
5.Checkthestateofchargeperiodically.Abatterythatisdischargedandleftinacoldenvironmentcanfreezeand
crack.Ifthevoltagedropsbelow12.4volts,thebatteryshouldberecharged.SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
•Ifthebatteryisfrozenorthecontainerisbulged,discardbattery.Afrozenbatterycanexplode.
6.Thefrequencyofrechargingrequireddependsonthetemperatureofthestoragearea,butitisrecommended
thatthebatterybemonitoredforstateofchargeeverymonth.Also,ifthestorageareaisunheatedinacold
climateandrechargingisrequired,itisrecommendedthattheareabeheatedtoatleast60°F(16°C)prior
tocharging.Thebatterywillnotchargeeffectivelyincoldtemperaturesforthesamereasonsthatitdoesnot
dischargeasrapidlyincoldtemperatures.

Thevehicleisequippedwithastarter/generator.Thegeneratorisnotdesignedtochargeadeadbattery.Ifthevehicle
batteryhasbecomedischarged,itmustbechargedusingaproperlyratedautomotivetypecharger.Seefollowing
