SELF-DISCHARGE
Dirtandbatteryacidcanprovideapathforasmallcurrentdrawthatslowlydischargesthebattery.Toprevent
self-discharge,thebatteryshouldalwaysbekeptclean.
Hotweatheralsohasaneffectonabattery’sself-dischargerate.Thehigherthetemperature,thequickerabatterywill
discharge.Inhotterclimates,therefore,thebatteryshouldbecheckedmoreoften.Whenstoringthebattery,keepin

VIBRATIONDAMAGE
Thebatteryhold-downclampshouldalwaysbetightenoughtokeepthebatteryfrombouncing.Batterylifemaybe
severelyshortenediftheclampistooloose.Excessivevibrationshortensthelifeofthebattery.Itmayalsocauseacid
toleakoutoftheventcapsandcorrosiontobuilduponsurroundingmetalparts.Theacidthatislostreducesthe
capacityofthebatteryandcannotbereplaced.
