4.1.Usethedriveclutchholdertool(1)whiletighteningorlooseningthedriveclutchretainingbolt(2)(Figure

23-4,Page23-5).

4.2.Hookdriveclutchholdertool(1)onboss(3)ofpulleylocatedbehinddriveclutchandpushagainstthe

adjacentbosswithholder.

5.Lubricatethethreadedportionoftheclutchpullertool(1)withalightoilandthreadtheclutchpullertoolintothe

femalethreadofthedriveclutch(Figure23-5,Page23-5).

6.Supportthedriveclutchwithyourhandandusea1/2-in.driveairwrenchtotightentheclutchpullertool.Thetool

willbottomoutinthecrankshaftandforcethedriveclutch(2)freeofthecrankshaft.

7.Removeclutchpullertoolfromdriveclutch.

CAUTION

•Donothitortaptheclutchwithahammer.Donotprytheclutch.Theseactionswilldamagetheclutch.

DRIVECLUTCHCLEANINGANDINSPECTION

1.Useadry,lint-freeclothtocleanclutchparts.

CAUTION

•Donotlubricatethedriveclutch.Lubricantsattractdirtanddust,whichinterferewithproperclutch

operation.

•Useonlyadryclothtolightlywipetheshaftofthexedsheave(18)(Figure23-3,Page23-4).Donot

useabrushorsteelwool.Thesewilldamagethesurfaceoftheshaft.

•Donotusesolvents.Solventswilldamagethelubricatingcharacteristicsofthebushings.

2.Inspectthebeltcontactsurfacesoftheclutchsheavesforwear.Ifanyareaofasheavecontactsurfacehaswear

of0.060in.(1.52mm)ormore,theclutchshouldbereplaced.

•Thedriveclutchisbalancedasanassembly.Beforedisassembly,makematchmarksonthedrive

clutchhubandonthemoveablesheavesotheycanbereassembledinthesamepositions(Figure

23-6,Page23-7).
