1.Disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethecontroller.SeeDisconnectingtheBatteries–ElectricVehicles,

2.Disconnectwiresfromtheterminalsonthemotorusingtwowrenchestopreventpostsfromturning.Label
thewirestoensureproperreconnection.
3.Slightlyloosenallthelugnutsonbothrearwheels.
4.Placeoorjackundertransaxleandraiserearofvehicle(Figure16-1,Page16-4)thenplacejackstandsunder
framecrossmemberbetweenthespringmountandthesidestringer,justforwardofeachrearwheel.Lowerthe
vehicletoletthejackstandssupportthevehicle(Figure16-2,Page16-4).SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
•Liftonlyoneendofthevehicleatatime.Useasuitableliftingdevice(chainhoistorhydraulicoor
jack)with1000lb.(454kg)minimumliftingcapacity.Donotuseliftingdevicetoholdvehicleinraised
position.Useapprovedjackstandsofproperweightcapacitytosupportthevehicleandchock
thewheelsthatremainontheoor.Whennotperformingatestorserviceprocedurethatrequires
movementofthewheels,lockthebrakes.

5.Removebothrearwheels.
6.Removethenut,cupwasher,andbushingfromthebottomsideoftheshockabsorber.Compresstheshock
absorber(pushingupwards)tomoveitoutoftheway(Figure16-3,Page16-5).
7.Removethenutsandboltsmountingtherearleafspringstotheshackles.
8.Togaineasieraccesstothemotor,lowerthetransaxleaslowasitwillgo.Ifmoreroomisneeded,removethe
jackfrombeneaththetransaxleandallowthespringstorestontheoor(Figure16-3,Page16-5).
