2.Forsomevehicles,theengine(1)canberemovedbyliftingitupandoutofthechassis.Forothervehicles,it
iseasiertoremovetheentirepowertrainassemblyrst.Ifremovingpowertrain,seeTransaxleRemovalon
page24-9.
3.Ifequipped,removeairdeectorfromtopofengine.
4.DisconnectgovernorcableandP-clamp,airintakehose,fuelline,wireharnessconnectors,groundcable,and
acceleratorcableP-clamp.SeeGasolineVehicle-FuelSystem,Section21,Page21-1.
5.Removestarter/generatorandbelt.SeeStarter/GeneratorRemoval,Section19,Page19-1.
6.Removedriveclutch.SeeDriveClutchRemoval,Section23,Page23-5.
7.Removemufer.SeeMuferRemoval,Section22,Page22-1.
8.Removeenginemountinghardware(2,3,4,5,and6)frommuferbracket(7),clutchplate(8),andenginepan
(9)(Figure20-7,Page20-8).
9.Liftengine(1)fromenginepan(9).SeefollowingNOTE.
NOTE:Theengineweighsapproximately54lb(24.5kg).
10.Removecrankcaseoildrainpluganddrainalloilfromcrankcase.Disposeofengineoilproperly.

1.Ifreplacingengine(1),installstarter/generatormountingweldment(10)onenginewithscrews(11),bolts(12),
washers(13),andlocknuts(14)(Figure20-7,Page20-8).Tightenlocknuts(14)onlynger-tightatthistime.
2.Installoildrainplugandtightento18ft·lb(24.4N·m).
3.Placeengine(1)ontoenginepan(9)andsecurewithmountinghardware(4,5,and6).Leaveangenuts(4)
looseatthistime.
4.Installclutchplate(8)withbolts(3and21).Leaveboltslooseatthistime.
5.Installbolts(2)throughmuferbracket(7)intotransaxlebutdonottighten.
6.Tightenhardwareinthefollowingorder:
6.1.Tightenbolts(3)to27ft·lb(36N·m).
6.2.Tightenbolts(21)to50ft·lb(68N·m).
6.3.Tightenbolts(2)to50ft·lb(68N·m).
6.4.Tightenangenuts(4)to33ft·lb(40.6N·m).
6.5.Tightenlocknuts(14)andbolts(15)to17ft·lb(23N·m).
