FRONTWHEELFREEPLAYINSPECTION

1.ElectricVehicle:Disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethecontroller.SeeDisconnectingtheBatteries–

ElectricVehiclesonpage1-4.

GasolineVehicle:Disconnectbatteryandsparkplugwire(s).

SeeDisconnectingtheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.

2.Raisethefrontofthevehicle.

3.Useyourhandstoattempttorockthewheelandhubassemblybackandforthonthespindle.Movementof

thewheelandhubonthespindleindicatesthatthehubbearingisworn;therefore,thehubassemblymustbe

replaced.SeeFrontHubRemovalonpage7-14.

FRONTHUBREMOVAL

1.Removethefrontwheels.SeeWheelRemovalonpage8-1.

2.Removedustcap(12)andlocknut(11)(Figure7-11,Page7-13).

3.Slidethehubassembly(9)offofthespindleshaft(3).

4.Lightlysandspindleshafttocleanawayanylightrust.

5.Inspectthesurfaceofthespindleshaftforsurfacedamage.Itshouldbecleanandsmooth.Ifseverepittingfrom

rustorcorrosionhasoccurred,replacethespindleassembly.SeeKingpinandSteeringSpindleRemoval

onpage7-9.

HUBINSTALLATION

1.Cleanandapplyalightcoatofanti-seizelubricanttothespindleshaft(3).

2.Slidethehubassembly(9)ontothespindleshaft(Figure7-12,Page7-15).

3.Installanewangedlocknut(11)andtightento50ft·lb(68N·m).

4.Rotatethehub.Thehubshouldrotatesmoothlywithoutbinding,sideplay,oranyindicationofroughspots.

5.Repeattheprocedurefortheoppositewheel.

6.Installwheelsandnger-tightenlugnuts.

7.Lowerthevehicleandnishtighteninglugnuts,usingacrisscrosspattern,to55ft·lb(74.6N·m).
