GENERALINFORMATION
Steeringiscontrolledthrougharackandpinionsteeringassemblythatisconnectedbyasteeringcolumntoasteering
wheel.Nomanualadjustmenttotherackandpiniongearassemblyisrequired.Aspringloadedself-adjusting
mechanismisincorporatedintotheassembly.

STEERINGWHEELREMOVAL
1.ElectricVehicle:Disconnectthebatteriesanddischargethecontroller.SeeDisconnectingtheBatteries–
ElectricVehiclesonpage1-4.
GasolineVehicle:Disconnectbatteryandsparkplugwire(s).
SeeDisconnectingtheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
2.Rotatesteeringwheeltoastraightaheadposition.
NOTE:Donotturnsteeringagainuntilwheelhasbeeninstalled.
3.Removetwoscrews(1)securingcover(2)tosteeringwheel(3)(Figure7-1,Page7-2).
4.Loosenandremovethesteeringwheelretainingbolt(4).
5.Removethesteeringwheel.SeefollowingNOTE.
NOTE:Thesteeringwheelhasataperedhextting.Asteeringwheelpullermayberequiredtoremovethesteering
wheel.
5.1.Placethepulleranvil(5)throughthetopopeningofthesteeringwheel(Figure7-1,Page7-2).
5.2.Inserttheanvilfeetthroughthetwoslotsinthebaseplate(marked“B”)(6).
5.3.Rotatetheanvilscrew(7)clockwiseuntilthebaseplate(6)contactsthebottomofthesteeringwheel
(3)atthesteeringcolumn(Figure7-2,Page7-2).
5.4.Usea1/2-inchdriveairimpactwrenchtotightentheanvilscrewuntilthesteeringwheelreleasesfrom
thesteeringshaft.
5.5.Removethesteeringwheelfromthesteeringcolumn.
