jamnut(1)isaleft-handthread.Threadeachnutapproximately1/2inch(12.7mm)awayfromtheturnbuckle.
5.Loosenturnbuckle(2)toreleasetensionontheequalizerbracket(4)thatpullsontheheadsofthebrakecables.
6.Removelugnutsandrearwheelsandthenthebrakedrums.
NOTE:Whenservicingvehicleswithself-adjustingbrakeswithbadlywornbrakeshoesandwhenthedrumscannot
beremovedbynormalmethods,performStep7ofBrakeShoeRemovalonpage6-1,thencontinue
withthisprocedure.
Althoughstep7belowallowseasieraccesstothebrakeshoes,itisnotimperativetodosoinorderto
removethebrakeshoes.
