FUELPUMPMODULEREMOVAL
1.TurnthekeyswitchtotheOFFpositionandremovethekey,placetheForward/ReversehandleintheNEUTRAL
position,andchockthewheels.
2.Disconnectbattery.
SeeDisconnectingtheBattery-GasolineVehiclesonpage1-3.
3.Cleanthetopofthefueltankandfuelpumpmodule(1)(Figure21-15,Page21-22).
4.Withamarkerpen,makeamarkacrossthetopofthemodule(1)andontothetanktonoteorientationbefore
removal.
5.Disconnectwireharnessplug(2).
6.Disconnectthefuelline(3)anddrainintoanappropriatecontainer.SeeFuelLineRemovalonpage21-17.

WARNING
•Fuelmaybeunderpressure.Useextremecautionwhendisconnectingfuellinetopreventthesprayof
fuelontohotengine.SeeRelievingFuelPressureonpage21-4.
•Carefullydrainanyfuelremaininginthehoseorpumpmoduleintoanapprovedcontainer.Add
drainedfuelbackintofueltankordisposeofproperly.
7.Loosenfueltankretainingstrap(4)toallowtanktomoveandprovideaccesstoallofthefuelpumpmodule
hardware(5).
8.Removehardware(5)securingholddownring(6)andgroundwire(7)tofueltank.
9.Liftfuelpumpmodule(1)outoffueltankanddrainintoanappropriatecontainer.Discardfuelmoduleo-ring(8).

FUELPUMPMODULEINSTALLATION
1.Cleanthegrooveontopoffueltank.
2.Placenewfuelmoduleo-ring(8)intogrooveontopoffueltank(Figure21-15,Page21-22).
3.Lowerfuelpumpmodule(1)intofueltanknotingcorrectorientationmarkedbeforeremoval.Seefollowing

NOTE:Ifequippedwithafuellevelsendingunit,carefullymaneuvermodulesoastoavoiddamagingtheoat
armmechanism.
CAUTION
•Ensureo-ringstaysseatedinplaceduringfuelpumpmoduleinstallation.
4.Installholddownring(6)andgroundwire(7)withhardware(5)andtighteninacrisscrosspatternto66in·lb(7.5
N·m).SeefollowingWARNING.
WARNING
•Alwaysinstallgroundwiresduringreassembly.
5.Tightenfueltankretainingstrapscrew(9)to26.5in·lb(3N·m).
