GENERALINFORMATION
Thevehicleisequippedwitha48-voltDC,shunt-wound,reversibletractionmotor.Theshunt-woundmotorisdesigned
foruseinExcelSystemvehicles.ClubCarrecommendsthatmotorsrequiringmajorrepairbesenttoaqualiedmotor
repairshop;however,therearemanyrelativelysimpletasksthatcanbeperformedbyatechnicianwithgeneral
knowledgeandexperienceinelectricmotorrepair.
EXTERNALMOTORTESTING
Thefollowingtestscanbeperformedwithoutdisassemblingthemotorusingamultimeterorcontinuitytester.
NOTE:Observethefollowingbeforetestingthemotor:
•Thisisonlytestingcontinuity.
•Tagthemotorwiresforidenticationbeforedisconnecting.
•Removemotorwirefromoneofthe“A”terminalsandoneofthe“F”terminalsiftestingwhilemotoris
invehicle.
•Whendisconnectingwiresfrommotorterminals,useasecondwrenchonthelowernutoftheterminal
posttoholdpoststeady.
•Scrapeasmallamountofpaintfrommotorhousing(ground)andusethislocationwhentestingmotor
terminalstoelectricalground.
