NOTE: We recommend taking
two
more
readings at
two
different
points
to
make sure
the
bevel gear is not warped.
The correct backlash is 0.007"·0.009"
with
all
nuts
torqued
to
30·35 ft.-lbs.
If
the
backlash is
less than 0.007"
it
will
be necessary
to
move
shims
from the right side
to
the
left.
If
the
backlash
is
over 0.009"
it
will
be necessary
to
move
shims
from the
left
side
to
the right.
Shims are available in thicknesses
of
0.006",
0.008" and 0.020".
It
may be necessary
to
trade
shims
to
arrive at the correct backlash.
Keep in
mind
that when you add
shims
to
move the ring gear
it
will
change the dial in·
dicator
reading 1
Y2
times
the amount
of
shims
installed. EXAMPLE: 0.008"
of
shims
will
change
the
backlash 0.012".
