Vehicles with modified fuel displays: if an
externallyoperated consumerisconnected
via thecable forthe auxiliaryheater,this is
nottaken into considerationonthe "range

In this case, observe thefuel display. The fuel

If youare transporting hazardous materials, com‐
ply withthe relevant safety regulations. Always
place objects at asufficient distance from the
outletopening of theauxiliaryheating.
Auxiliary heating worksindependentlyofthe
engine and complements theclimatecontrolsys‐
teminthe vehicle. Auxiliary heating heats theair
inside thevehicle to theset temperature.
Hot-water auxiliaryheater
Function of thehot-water auxiliaryheater
The hot-water auxiliaryheater complements your
vehicle's climatecontrolsystem, and has a
heater booster, auxiliaryheating and auxiliary
ventilation function. In addition, theauxiliary
heating system heats theengine coolant to pro‐
tect theengine and save fuel during thewarming-
up phase. The auxiliaryheatingheats theair
inside thevehicle to theset temperature. It is not
dependent on theheat output of therunning
engine. The auxiliary heating is operated directly
using thevehicle's fuel. Forthis reason, the fuel
tank musthave been filled above thereserve fuel
levelsothat theauxiliaryheating can work.The
auxiliary heating automatically adapts its operat‐
ing mode to theoutside temperatureand
weather.Itisthereforepossible that theauxiliary
heating mayswitchfromventilation to heating
mode or from heating to ventilation mode. When
theengine is running, auxiliary ventilation is not
active.Auxiliaryheating automatically switches
itself offafter amaximumof50minutes. You
cannotuse the"auxiliaryventilation" operating
mode to cool theair inside thevehicle to below
theoutside temperature. Auxiliary heating helps
to heat up thevehicle while theengine is running
and at lowoutsidetemperatures.
Operating thehot-water auxiliaryheater draws
powerfromthe vehicle battery. Therefore, drivea
reasonablylongdistance afterheating or ventilat‐
ing thevehicle twice in succession at most.
Auxiliary heating can be activated onlyattemper‐
atures below4F(4.5 °C).
