Function of theelectrical step
Your vehicle's sliding door maybeequipped with
an electrical step.
Electrical step 1 automaticallyextends when
thesliding door opens, and retracts afterthe slid‐
ing door closes. Electrical step 1 is equipped
withobstacle detection at thefront.Ifthe step
meets an obstacle while extending, it stops.
When youhave removedthe obstacle, youmust
firstclose thesliding door then re-openitsothat
thestepextends completely.
If theelectrical step prevents loading,you can
blockitvia obstacle detection whenthe sliding
door opens. The electrical step then remains
retracted and afork-lift truckorother lifting vehi‐
cle can move closer to theload area.

When theignition is switched off, awarning
tone sounds if obstacle detection is blocked.
The tone laststwo minutes.
When theignition is switched on, thewarning
tone sounds continuously.

1 is malfunctioning (/ page359).
If electrical step 1 is malfunctioning, thestep
maynot extend or retract, or only partially. After
amalfunctionoccurs, youmustretract and lock
electrical step 1 manually in order to continue
driving (/ page 53). Beforepassengersexit the
vehicle, informthem that electrical step 1 may
be missing.
Releasing theelectrical step in an emergency
(manualretraction)
If theelectrical step does notautomatically
retract, youmustmanuallyretract thestepand
lockitinorder to continuedriving.

On theunderside of step 2 on both bars 1
remove thespring cotters 3 from thepin.

Remove thewashers 4 and detach both
bars.
