Functions of ActiveLaneKeeping Assist
ActiveLaneKeeping Assistmonitorsthe area in
front of your vehicle by means of multifunction
camera 1.Itservestoprotect youagainstunin‐
tentionally leaving your lane.You mayalso be
warned by avibratingmessagefromthe steering
wheel and by thestatus symbolflashing in the
instrument display. In addition, youmay be gui‐
ded backintoyour lane by alane-correcting
brakeapplication. Arelevant message appearsin
theinstrument display.
The warning is issued when thefollowing condi‐
tions aremet at thesame time:

The driving system detects lane markings.
R
Afront wheel passesoverthe lane markings.
Alane-correcting brakeapplication occurs when
thefollowing conditionsare met:
R
ActiveLaneKeeping Assistdetects lane
markings on both sides of thevehicle.
R
Afront wheel drives overasolidlane mark‐
ing.
Arelevant message appearsinthe instrument
display.
The brakeapplication is available in thespeed
rangebetween approximately 40 mph(60 km/h)
and 100mph (160 km/h).
Youcan either deactivatethe ActiveLaneKeep‐
ing Assistwarning or switchoff thesystem com‐
pletely.
If youfail to adaptyour driving style, ActiveLane
Keeping Assistcan neither reduce therisk of an
accident nor override thelawsofphysics. It can‐
nottakeintoaccount road, weather or traffic
conditions. The driving system is an aid forwhen
youunintentionally leave or cross thelane and
notasystem forautomatically keeping to the
lane. Youare responsible forthe distance to the
vehicle in front, forvehicle speed, braking in good
time and forstaying in your lane.
If alane-correcting brakeapplication from Active
Lane Keeping Assistoccurs, display 1 appears
in themultifunction display.
System limitations
No lane-correcting brakeapplication from Active
Lane Keeping Assistoccursinthe following situa‐
tions:

Youclearly and activelysteer,brake or accel‐
erate.
R
Youswitch on theturnsignal.
R
Adriving safetysystemintervenes, such as
ESP
®
or ActiveBrake Assist.
R
Youhave adoptedasporty driving stylewith
high cornering speeds or high ratesofaccel‐
eration.
R
ESP
®
has been switched off.
R
When driving withatrailer,the electrical con‐
nection to thetrailer has been correctly
established.
R
If aloss of tirepressureoradefectivetirehas
been detected and displayed.
The system maybeimpaired or maynot function
in thefollowing situations:
R
Thereispoor visibility, e.g. due to insufficient
illumination of theroad, highly variable shade
conditions, or due to rain, snow, fogorheavy
spray.
R
Glarefromoncomingtraffic, direct sunlightor
reflections.
R
Thereisdirtonthe windshield in thevicinity
of themultifunction camera or thecamera is
fogged up, damaged or obscured.
R
No or several, unclear lane markings arepres‐
ent forone lane, e.g. in aconstruction area.
R
The lane markings areworn, darkorcovered.
