Function of therear viewcamera
If youhave activated thefunction in themultime‐
dia system, theimagefromrear viewcamera 1
appearsinthe multimedia system when reverse
gear is selected. Dynamic guide lines showthe
paththe vehicle will take withthe steering wheel
in its current position. Thishelps youtoorient
yourself and to avoid obstacles whenbackingup.
The imagefromrear viewcamera 1 appearsin
themultimedia system when thefollowing condi‐
tions arefulfilled:

The ignition is switched on.
R
Reversegear has notbeen engaged.
R
The rear-enddoorsare opened.
This meansthat theareabehind thevehicle can
be monitored.
When therear-end doorsare closed, theimage
from therear viewcameraisswitched offafter
approximatelyten seconds.
The rear viewcameraisonlyanaid. It is nota
substitutefor your attention to thesurroundings.
The responsibility forsafemaneuvering and park‐
ing remains withyou. Makesurethat thereare no
persons, animals or objectsetc., in themaneu‐
vering area whilemaneuvering and parking.
The rear viewcameramay showadistorted view
of obstacles,showthem incorrectly or notatall.
The rear viewcameracannotdisplayall objects
whichare very neartoorunder therear bumper.
It will notwarnyou of acollision, peopleor
objects.

The area behindthe vehicle is displayedasamir‐
rorimage, as in theinside rearviewmirror.
System limitations
The rear viewcamerawill notfunction or will only
partiallyfunction in thefollowing situations:

Thereisheavy rain, snoworfog.
R
The ambient light is poor,e.g. at night.
R
The area is lit by fluorescent light (the display
mayflicker).
R
If thereisasudden changeintemperature,
e.g. when driving intoaheated garage in win‐
ter.
R
The ambient temperatureisveryhigh.
R
The cameralens is obstructed, dirty or fogged
up. Observe thenotes on cleaning therear
viewcamera(/page274).
R
Thecameraorrear of your vehicle is dam‐
aged. In this event,have thecamera,its posi‐
tion and its setting checkedataqualified spe‐
cialistworkshop.
The field of vision and other functions of therear
viewcameramay be restricted duetoadditional
accessories on therear of thevehicle (e.g. a
loading tailgate).

The displaycontrastmay be impaired due to
incident sunlightorother light sources. In
this case, payparticular attention.

Have thedisplayrepaired or replaced if, for
example, pixel errors considerably restrict its
use.

Only usethe guide lines of thecamera image
fororientation. Do nottravelfurther than the
lowest horizontal guide line when approach‐
ing objects. Youmay otherwise damageyour
vehicle and/or theobject.
