Neverrefuel using gasoline in diesel
engines.
#
Nevermix gasoline withdiesel fuel.
*
NOTE Damage due to incorrect fuel
Even small amounts of thewrong fuel could
result in damagetothe fuel system, the
engine and emission controlsystem.
Neverrefuel with:
R
Gasoline
R
Marine diesel
R
Heating oil
R
Purebio-dieselorvegetable oil
R
Paraffin or kerosene

Do notmix suchfuels withdiesel fuel
and do notuse anyspecial additives.
If youhave accidentally refueled withthe
wrong fuel,observe thefollowing:
#
Do notswitchonthe ignition.
#
Consult aqualified specialistworkshop.
*
NOTE Malfunctions duetocontaminated
fuel
Fuel contamination can lead to malfunctions
in thefuel system.
#
If youare usingdrums or canisters to
refuel thevehicle, youshouldfilter the
fuel beforefilling.
*
NOTE Damage due to incorrect fuel
Incorrect fuelcan leadtoengine damage.
#
Refuel only ULSD or diesel fuel witha
sulfur content of maximum15ppm.
Usually youwill find information aboutthe fuel
grade on thefuel pump. If thereisnoidentifica‐
tion on thefuel pump, consult agas station
attendant.
The fuel grade recommended foryour vehicle is
found on theinstruction label in thefuel filler
flap .

WARNING Risk of fire and explosion due
to fuel igniting
If youheat fuel system components, e.g. with
aheat gun or open flame, these components
could be damaged.
Fuel mayleak out and ignite. Depending on
thetype of damage, fuel might notescape
until theengine is running.
#
Neverheat fuel system components.

Consult aqualified specialistworkshop
to have themalfunction rectified.
Refill onlywithcommerciallyavailable ULTRA-
LOWSULFUR DIESEL (ULSD, maximum sulfur
content 15 ppm), whichfulfills theASTMD975
standard.
The flow properties of diesel fuel maybeinade‐
quateatlow outside temperatures due to paraffin
separation.
%
Malfunctions resulting from paraffinsepara‐
tion can only be rectified by heating the
entirefuel system. Park thevehicle in a
heated garage,for example.
To prevent malfunctions, diesel fuel with
improved flow characteristicsisavailable in the
winter months. Youcan obtain further informa‐
tion on this at thegas stationorfromyour fuel
supplier.
Your vehicle is equipped withafuel preheating
system. This additionallyimprovesthe flow char‐
acteristicsofthe diesel fuel by about 14.5 °F
(8 °C). ULTRA-LOWSULFUR DIESEL can be used
without risk of malfunction down to an outside
temperatureofapproximately 14.5 °F (-10°C).
