To install: slide thetie-down eyethrough a
recess in theloading rail close to theload
until locking mechanism engages in the
recess.

Whenyou pull locking mechanism up and out
of therecess, thetie-down eyeisable to
move within theloading rail. Makesurethat
locking mechanism is alwaysengaged in a
recess.

Check thetie-down eyefor firm seating.

To remove: pull locking mechanism up and
pull thetie-down eyetowards thelocking
mechanism and out of theloading rail
through arecess.

When youplaceaload on theroof as well as
all outer and inner attachments, thevehicle's
center of gravity will rise and thefamiliar driv‐
ing characteristicsaswell as thesteering and
braking characteristicswill change. When
drivingaround bends, thevehicle will tilt
moreheavily and mayreact moresluggishly
to steering movements.
If youexceed themaximum roof load, the
driving characteristics, as well as thesteering
and braking, will be greatlyimpaired.

Observe thefollowing points forassembling roof
racks:

Tighten theroof rack's screwstoatorque of
6.0 lb-ft(8Nm) –7.4 lb-ft(10 Nm) in thedes‐
ignated groovedplates.
R
The tightened screwsshould nottouchthe
rails.
R
Ensurethat thegroovedplates arenot loca‐
tedinthe areas around theplastic caps.
R
The groovedplates musthave theright cross-
section.
R
The insides of themounting rails mustbefree
of dirt.
R
Re-tightenthe screwsuniformly afteraround
300 miles(500 km).
Mercedes-Benz recommends that youuse only
roof racksthat have been tested and approved
forMercedes-Benz. These help to prevent vehicle
damage.
If youwant to retrofit themounting rails, have
them installed at aqualified specialistworkshop.
Otherwise, youcoulddamagethe vehicle.
If your vehicle is installed withmountingrails on
theroof, youcan install aroof rack on theroof.
Special fasteners(sliding blocks)are available as
accessories forthis purpose.
