System limitations
Cruise control maybeunable to maintain the
stored speed on uphill gradients. The stored
speed is resumed when thegradient evens out.
On long and steep downhill gradients, youshould
changedowntoalowergear in good time. Take
particular note of this when driving aladen vehi‐
cle. By doing so, youwill makeuse of the
engine'sbraking effect. Thisrelievesthe load on
thebrake system and prevents thebrakesfrom
overheating and wearing tooquickly.
Do notuse cruise control in thefollowing situa‐
tions:
R
In trafficsituations where frequent speed
changes arerequired, e.g. in heavy trafficor
on winding roads.
R
On slippery roads. Accelerating can cause the
drivewheels to lose traction and thevehicle
could then skid.
R
If youare drivingwhen visibilityispoor.

&
WARNING Risk of accident duetostored
speed
If youcall up thestoredspeed and this is
lowerthan your current speed,the vehicle
decelerates.
#
Take intoaccount thetraffic situation
beforecallingupthe stored speed.
Requirements:
R
ESP
®
is activated, but maynot intervene.
R
The driving speed is at least15mph
(20 km/h).
#
To activatecruise control: pushrocker
switch 1 up.
#
Remove your foot from theaccelerator pedal.
The current speed is then savedand main‐
tained by thevehicle.
#
Push rocker switch 1 up.
#
To increase/reduce speed: push rocker
switch 2 up or down.
The stored speed is increased or reduced by
1mph (1 km/h).
or
#
Press rocker switch 2 up or down and hold.
The stored speed is increased or reduced in
1mph (1 km/h) increments.
or
#
Push rocker switch 2 beyond thepressure
point.
The stored speed is increased or reduced by
5mph (10km/h).
or
#
Push rocker switch 2 beyond thepressure
point and hold.
The stored speed is increased or reduced in
5mph (10km/h) increments.
or
#
Accelerate thevehicle to thedesired speed.
#
Push rocker switch 2 up.
If cruise controlisactivated and TrafficSign
Assist has detected aspeed restriction signwith
amaximum permissible speed and this appears
in theinstrument display:
#
To adoptthe detected speed: push rocker
switch 3 up.
The maximum permissible speed shown by
thetraffic sign is stored and thevehicle main‐
tains this speed.
