Work carried out incorrectly on thebattery
can, forexample, lead to ashortcircuit.This
can lead to function restrictions in safety-rel‐
evant systems, forexample thelighting sys‐
tem, ABS (anti-lockbraking system) or ESP
®
(Electronic StabilityProgram). The operating
safetyofyour vehicle mayberestricted.
Youcouldlose control of thevehicle in the
following situations:

when braking

in theevent of abrupt steering maneuvers
and/or when thevehicle's speed is not
adaptedtothe road conditions

larincident, contact aqualified special‐
istworkshop immediately.

Mercedes-Benz recommends that youhave the
12 Vbatteryreplaced at aqualified specialist
workshop, e.g. at an authorized Mercedes-Benz
Center.
Should youwant to replace thebatteryyourself,
observe thefollowing information:

Alwaysreplace adefectivebatterywithabat‐
tery whichfulfills thevehicle's specific
requirements.
R
Use detachable parts suchasthe vent hose,
elbowfittingorterminal coverfromthe bat‐
tery to be replaced.
R
Makesurethat thevent hose is alwayscon‐
nected to its original openingonthe battery
side.
Installthe existingornewly supplied stop
plugs.
Otherwise, gases or batteryacid could
escape.

Makesurethat thedetachable parts arecon‐
nectedinthe same wayasbefore.
Forsafetyreasons, Mercedes-Benz recommends
that youonly use batteries that have been tested
and approvedfor your vehicle by Mercedes-Benz.
These batteries provide increased impact protec‐
tion to prevent vehicle occupants from suffering
acidburns should thebatterybedamaged in an
accident.
